Details: In her short story "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas", Ursula K. Le Guin uses fiction to explore the dynamics of the greater good, collateral damage, and ethical decisions. In a fictional utopia that exists only because of the perpetual torture of one child, Le Guin asks the reader: if you knew about the torture, would you walk away from utopia? A useful thought experiment for those in the national security space, discussing the choice to walk away - or to stay- is instructive and challenging.
